IBM9729 - IBM9729 ( Dual Fiber Card ) Connection Status Information

The connection information between two IBM9729 devices, each having
the dual fiber card with protection switching, is displayed here.

FIELDS::
========

9729 Source:
------------
The selection name of the source IBM9729 device that forms one end
of the connection. It is a Read-Only field.

9729 Destination:
-----------------
The selection name of the destination IBM9729 device that forms the
other end of the connection. It is a Read-Only field.

Link Status:
------------
If the link is operational it is UP, else it is DOWN. It is a Read-
Only field.

Fiber Used:
-----------
This parameter indicates which fiber is being used, i.e. PRIMARY or
SECONDARY. It is a Read-Only field.

Fiber Current Switching Mode:
-----------------------------
This parameter indicates the current fiber switching mode. The format
is <Source Current Switching Mode>:<Destination Current Switching
Mode>; where the values within < > are either HOLD or AUTO. A value
of HOLD means that the device is forced to use the current fiber
( primary or secondary ) even though it may be bad. A value of AUTO
means that the device performs automatic protection fiber switching
from the bad to the good fiber. So the state of the fiber is a
combination of the fiber used together with its switching mode.It
takes on one of four values, namely, <PRIMARY,AUTO>, <PRIMARY,HOLD>,
<SECONDARY,AUTO>, <SECONDARY,HOLD>. It is a Read-Only field.

Last Switching Command:
-----------------------
This parameter indicates the last switching command performed by the
SNMP Subagents associated with the devices that form the end points
of the connection. The format is <Source Host Switching Command>:
<Destination Host Switching Command>; where the values within < > are
one of PRIMARY, SECONDARY, HOLD, AUTO. A value of PRIMARY means that
the 9729 device was forcibly switched to the primary fiber. A value
of SECONDARY means that the 9729 device was forcibly switched to the
secondary/backup fiber. A value of HOLD means that the 9729 device
is forced to use the current fiber ( PRIMARY or SECONDARY ) even
though it may be bad. A value of AUTO means that the 9729 device
performs automatic protection fiber switching from the bad to the
good fiber. It is a Read-Only field.

Source Switching Command:
-------------------------
This parameter indicates the switching command that the user desires
to be fed into the device that forms the source of the connection. It
is one of Unset, PRIMARY, SECONDARY, HOLD or AUTO. A value of Unset
means that the user does not wish to change the fiber switching mode
of the source device. The other values are as explained above. To
effect the new switching mode, first press the "Verify" button. A SNMP
set request corresponding to this command is sent to the Subagent. The
user is notified of the status of the SNMP set request in the "Messages"
text box. This is a Read-Write field. It is important to note that in
the process of effecting a fiber switch, all the channels are brought
down temporarily. Furthermore, if the destination device's current
switching mode is AUTO, a switch command of PRIMARY or SECONDARY at the
source will automatically cause both devices to use the PRIMARY or
SECONDARY fiber respectively - in this case it is not necessary to set
the same switch command for the destination device. It is a Read-Write
field.

Destination Switching Command:
------------------------------
This parameter indicates the switching command that the user desires
to be fed into the device that forms the destination of the connection.
It is one of Unset, PRIMARY, SECONDARY, HOLD or AUTO. A value of Unset
means that the user does not wish to change the fiber switching mode
of the destination device. The other values are as explained above. To
effect the new switching mode, first press the "Verify" button. The
SNMP set request corresponding to this command is sent to the Subagent.
The user is notified of the status of the SNMP set request in the
"Messages" text box. This is a Read-Write field. It is important to note
that in the process of effecting a fiber switch, all the channels are
brought down temporarily. Furthermore, if the source device's current
switching mode is AUTO, a switch command of PRIMARY or SECONDARY at the
source will automatically cause both devices to use the PRIMARY or
SECONDARY fiber respectively - it is not necessary to set the same switch
command for the destination device. It is a Read-Write field.
